Overall Purpose of Job

Reporting to managers and partners, this position involves working predominantly in the Audit (Corporate clients) and/or Business Services (Accounts) team. Trainees will receive the appropriate training in accounts preparation and audit and to a more limited extent tax, with a view to obtaining the relevant professional experience and becoming a fully qualified chartered accountant.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Trainees will deal primarily with owner managed businesses including sole traders, companies and partnerships. Work undertaken can include:

  • Client record processing
  • Bookkeeping
  • Management accounts preparation
  • Preparation of accounts and financial statements
  • Assisting with, and on, audits both in but primarily out of the office using a computerised audit system
  • Producing audit files for review
  • Personal and corporation tax computations and returns (once tax papers have been sat)
  • VAT returns and checking
  • Answering telephone calls and dealing with basic client queries and /or enquiries (internal and external clients) about personal and business matters
  • Developing strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and relevant authorities
  • Working as part of a team
  • Providing general assistance to the audit and/or business services team(s)
  • Raise awareness of other WK services, including Financial Services, Payroll, HR, Corporate Finance and IT, and highlight possible cross or up selling opportunities
  • Administration and other ad hoc tasks as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Achieved at least a grade B in both Mathematics and English Language GSCE (or equivalent)
  • Successfully studied to A Level (or equivalent) achieving a minimum of 300 UCAS points in your A2 exams, * or be on track to do so
  • Achieved, or be predicted to achieve, a 2:1 in your chosen degree*
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
