At Gerald Edelman, we aspire to deliver genuinely exceptional relationships, experiences and advice. We are a medium-sized professional services firm with a relaxed and open environment where you are encouraged to bring the real you to work.
We are looking to recruit a number of talented graduates, who want to join an ambitious firm where you can build your skills whilst training to become a qualified Chartered Accountant. We are looking for candidates with excellent academic qualifications as well as drive, ambition and a hunger for success.
In return, you’ll enjoy a competitive salary with increases based on exam success and an excellent study and benefits package.
Your route to the ICAEW (ACA) qualification
You will enter employment under a three year training contract and during this time you will gain a wide range of practical experience whilst studying towards your professional examinations, leading to the ICAEW (ACA) Chartered Accountant qualification.
Practical training to equip you for your work with us is provided by our training partner (SWAT UK) and more technical training focusing on the exams is provided by professional tutors from Kaplan. Both are leading training organisations within the profession, and formal training is supplemented by in-house workshops and training sessions. You will be given paid study leave and we also cover the costs of all courses and examinations for first attempts.
Progress is actively monitored through regular feedback and a formal appraisal system. We encourage our people to take full responsibility for their client work under the guidance of the partners and managers and to develop their career with us.
Why you should work for us
Our partners want the best for our teams and so invest their time to develop the technical and practical skills of our people and to create a nurturing environment in which driven individuals will flourish.
Our London based team of 16 partners and 118 staff are highly experienced and specialise in a wide range of services such as audit, business services, taxation, payroll, statutory compliance (including company secretarial), trusts, corporate finance and business recovery services. Working across all these specialisms means that our trainees gain experience across a broad range of service lines and the opportunity to assist our diverse mix of clients, which includes sole traders, owner-managed businesses, within numerous sectors including property, financial services, marketing, IT, legal services, not-for-profit and charity, wholesale, retail, manufacturing and many more. We place great importance on relationships and have a stable and loyal client base, where personal recommendations and referrals demonstrate the satisfaction and confidence that they have in the advice provided and in the teams supporting them.
Our active social committee arranges numerous firm wide events throughout the year including the annual GE summer rally, bowling nights, pub quizzes, sporting events and much more.
The benefits of training with a medium-size firm
A major benefit of training with a medium sized firm is experiencing the depth and variety of assignments that you will be involved with. You will gain exposure to a wide range of assignments with clients of all sizes in various industry sectors.
In larger firms, trainees often spend much of their training confined to audit because of the sheer scale of the work. Audit work is just one small aspect of an assignment and in a medium sized firm such as Gerald Edelman, you will benefit from having exposure to many different areas of client work.
At Gerald Edelman you will interact with partners directly and they will take a direct interest in your development and support you through your training. You will also benefit from the close network of recent and current trainees who are available to help you navigate the journey to qualification and the various challenges that it brings.
Minimum entry requirements
We are looking for mature, numerate and intelligent graduates who are willing to work hard, study hard and enjoy a friendly and sociable environment. Above all, you will need to have the flexibility to adapt to a variety of challenging situations and the communication skills to express ideas and deal with clients at all levels.
You will need:
- 2:2 degree or above in ANY subject.
- A minimum of 300 UCAS points (old UCAS tariff) or 120 UCAS points (new UCAS tariff) or equivalents, from your top three grades (first attempts only). AS levels and General Studies are not accepted.
- GCSE English Language, grade C or above.
- GCSE Maths, grade B or above.
Previous accounting experience is not required as full training is provided.
Remember though, that your academic qualifications are not enough on their own. We’re looking for articulate and confident graduates with a range of transferable skills. Accountancy is a people-focused profession. Numeracy is expected, but you must also be able to communicate confidently with clients and colleagues, as well as being able to organise yourself and your workload, balance the competing demands on your time, and take personal responsibility for the development of your career.
If you have the qualities that we seek in our trainees and you are looking for a challenging and rewarding career, please apply today.
