Our placements are a great way for you to gain an insight into the working world of accountancy and Hazlewoods as a firm. During your time here, you will take on the same responsibilities as a first-year graduate. You will gain exposure to various business activities and this will be a great stepping-stone into a future career with us. You will be supported by a manager and buddy and will be treated the same as a permanent member of staff, so can join in with all our fun social and charity activities. Many of our 12 month’ placement students are offered a graduate training contract at the end of their placement.

In 2020 we have vacancies in the following areas:

Audit

Our teams take the time to really get to know our clients’ people, their industries and their marketplace so they can provide insightful, tailored advice to help maximise the potential of every business we work with. Your role will be based both in the office and off site at client’s premises. You will need to be a confident communicator who is happy dealing with people at all levels. Where our clients aren’t local, you will stay away at a hotel with the rest of your audit team and this is all fully expensed.

Tax

As a Hazlewoods Tax placement, you will be intrinsic in supporting our award-winning tax teams with tax compliance work in either the personal or corporate tax areas, or both.  You will also help to provide forward thinking, creative and strategic planning advice tailored to fit our clients’ personal and business objectives. A role in tax would suit those who enjoy problem solving and working in a busy team with strict reporting rules and deadlines.

Corporate Finance

Our Transaction Support team works closely with several corporate acquirers and many the London based Private Equity Houses, Corporate Banks and Nominated Advisers to AIM companies. In 2018 we advised on a record 208 completed transactions valued at £851 million. The main focus will be undertaking due diligence on behalf of high growth companies on businesses they are looking to acquire. The work also seeks to ensure that our clients are aware of all the key financial risks that they may be inheriting as a result of acquiring the target business. The role is analytical, and report based and would suit those with an inquisitive mind and superb attention to detail.

Entry requirements

  • On course for a 2.1 or higher in a relevant degree discipline
  • At least 112 UCAS points + grade B (6) or above in Maths & English at GCSE
  • A confident communicator, with a flexible “can do” attitude
  • A driven and enthusiastic character with a genuine interest in a career in Accountancy
  • Areas of Specialism: Audit and Assurance, Corporate Finance, Tax
