All employers seek strong communication skills. Naturally, those that possess them can lay claim to an aptitude for careers in communications, which encompasses a wide range of business functions, including marketing and client-facing roles. Indeed, marketing has become a popular career destination for modern languages graduates, with 11.7% moving into marketing roles within six months of graduation.

A second language can prove particularly useful in business and finance – which accounts for 13.6% of employed languages graduates – and can bring with it opportunities to work abroad. Many vacancies for management consultancy or banking and investments roles will list a second language as a necessary skill, to be used in negotiation and mediation with foreign stakeholders.
